Fabric Scrap Necklaces

Fabric Scrap Necklaces

If the phrase fabric necklace calls up images of summer camp afternoons spent in the arts and crafts tent rather than fancy cocktail parties, then this ruffled cloth necklace from Happy Together is for you. Pair an elegant fabric with a strapless dress for a night out, or put together a more casual collection to go with your favorite shorts and tees.

Though Jessica, the artist who created this tutorial, used a 20x3 piece of fabric, she promises that you can experiment with whatever you have leftover from your last project. Other than that, youll need only a necklace chain one from your collection is fine, a sewing machine, and a safety pin; a heat sealing tool is optional. Fold the fabric in half a sew, creating a long loop that you can thread the chain through, and youre finished. The ones shown here are made from dressier fabrics but try a brightly colored cotton print, gingham, or graphic black and white version to go with different outfits.

Along with the reuse benefits of this project, we loved seeing the piece that inspired Jessica to make this necklace: a $178 designer version highlighted in a fashion spread. Thrify, green, and fashionable? If only your summer camp projects had all of that going for them. Via Craft
